Walking downstairs, people had already removed Belk and his mother, and I saw Boro standing in the gaping hole in the wall, frowning.
“The stove is gone,” I said.
“That’s not an understatement,” he told me. “It’s absolutely gone. It’s not in the back garden. It’s not in the river, or past it. The oven’s completely vanished.”
