Ugh. So begins the “they/them” nonsense. Hope this character isn’t in the story long. My educated brain can’t handle the improper grammar. It’s like nails on a chalkboard.

Was in a weeks long reading slump. It’s no shock that a T Kingfisher book would be the one to get me out of it

Why do authors ruin a perfectly good book with racism? I imagine Hepworth thought that ‘white men’ line was “sticking it to the man” when really it was plain old racism. Had it been a line about black men the uproar - hell the book would’ve never made it to see the light of day. Disappointment

All the libs freaking out over the pro life aspects of this book has put a ginormous smile on my face

Sigh. The amount of dog abuse happening is really dragging this book down. Frustrating

Would make a good book club choice. Lots of things to talk about. Sterilization of people who shouldn’t be having kids is a crazy concept but in some ways justified and in other ways horrific.

Why doesn’t this have the gay tag? 🙄

She wanted to escape reality and live in a fantasy world since childhood? That dream came true. She’s nucking futs in her la la land. Her grandmother was sent to a mental hospital? So crazy runs in the family

Sad that this character who is a well paid dr isn’t considering adoption. Like people forget there are tons of kids in the world needing homes.

For 2 drs and the chief of police these people sure are dumb. You would think they would make some common sense decisions. Kind of bugging me at this point how oblivious they all are. Not sure if I want to finish the book

If the dog lives I will give this a 5 star review for that alone.

I really appreciate that the author added in a bit about how trauma/loss can easily be triggered years later by something as innocent as a child making up a rhyme. Good lesson for readers- especially the MG audience this is intended for. It didn’t ruin the flow of the story and was handled tactfully. Well done
