I walk to stand on the deck. “This prospect will be watching after you. If you need anything, tell him.” He points to a massive guy on the bike, and holy shit, he is scary looking. I kiss Royal and he winks at me, then he's off on his bike.

Royal cringes at that, “Since I've had Penny, I have not dated. I don’t want just anyone to come into her life.”
I hold my breath at his confession. His eyes are dark, staring at me like he is willing me to understand what he is saying.

“You did this for me?” I ask him.
“Is it too much?” He asks, and I see an uneasy expression.
I shake my head furiously, “This is more than anyone has ever done for me.”

He reaches into his pocket for his phone, and right on the front screen is a picture of his little girl. She is a few years older than Donavan and the spitting image of her dad. “Wow, she is precious.”
He grins at me, “She is my whole world. I have raised her all alone since she was a newborn."
