Santiago’s respect for the fish and his aim to kill it stand side by side, a contradiction which reflects the many contradictions in life. He thinks deeply about the sea and its companions, yet shows no complicated thoughts on daily life matters. The way Santiago talks so intimately to hisself, makes you feel like you are with him.

Dialogues require deep thinking and reflection which can be confronting at times.

Im slightly dissapointed in these appendixes because i was hoping for new material. The treatise itself is 40 pages and the appendixes are 40 pages as well.

Appendix one, two, three, four, five and six are precise chapters from the book Seeds of admonishment which i’ve already read and own. Appendix seven and eight are precise chapters from the book Disturber of the hearts. I haven’t read this before so this was a nice addition.Appendix nine is a precise chapter from the legacy of the prophet which I’ve already read and own.

Thirdly there is the publisher who notes on page 28 that a narration that Ibn rajab had in this book can not be accepted to be authentically attributed. This does spoil the atmosphere sometimes of the text. But on the other hand it also brings the treatise on a higher level and it gives a comprehensive feel to it.

It’s a book which information is viewed from different angles. Firstly there are hadiths mentioned which are listed as sahih, da’if or hasan etc ... Secondly there are different interpretations of different sholars.

Very comprehensive. Beautifully written. Touching. Made me in tears at times. Has true gems. Wonderful atmosphere that boosts hope in the heart.

Hard to keep my attention.

The point is that we dont need to know. We dont need to look at the world with a microscope and be the abstract philosoph that asks questions that come with nonsense answers. What we do have to do is find our inner self and to go along with things like they are. If we dont do that we end up in difficulties.

Curious one : why do birds fly in the winter to south? Science : instinct , which means we dont know that
