I wasn't expecting to have issues with this book so soon, page 8, and I'm already seriously considering putting it down. I understand the brain surgery joke was supposed to be something to get the dialog started and tell us that, yes, this girl works a lot and breeze right past it. But for someone who has had to face this, the joke fell flat.

Let no one rule your mind or body. Take special care that your thoughts remain unfettered. Show respect for those in power, but don't follow them blindly. Judge with logic and reason, but comment not. Consider none your superior, whatever rank or station in life. Treat all fairly or they will seek revenge. Be careful with your money. Hold fast to your beliefs and others will listen. Of the affairs of love, be honest.

Girl, I feel the same way when people tell me they haven't read Harry Potter, or that they don't like it.
