That moment when you reread a book you used to like but then have to rethink your review, your taste in books, and even your life choices. #booknerdproblems

This is such an odd book. They use modern phrases such as "cool" and they use modern items, but it has a fantasy setting and feel for most of the book. Just when I get into the fantasy mindset, something is said or done that is definitely not fantasy. Not sure what to make of that. There are a lot of typos, which doesn't bother me much in a self-pub, but the world is just odd..

I was looking at reviews for a book I'm considering reading, when I found one where the reviewer was tearing apart the author for the overuse of a certain word, then added, "just like all the other books I've read by her." Wait. You've read a number of the author's books, so you knew she liked to overuse that word. Did you read this book just so you could post an angry review?? Buy a dog and lighten up a little! :-)

"And remember that person who was a total butt-waffle in the first book? Guess what? They're a good guy and I have to like them now. And look, someone else just walked in from the first book, and they're a good guy. And look, someone else just walked in..." I love YA books. Never change, YA. Never change.

As I grow up (I'm a 42 year old guy, so I'm still pretty immature if you know how guys are), it can be frustrating how my tastes change. For instance, I will go back and re-read a book on my Fav shelf, and be like, "What was I thinking? This love triangle is so frustrating. Can the MC be any more dense?" So, basically, I need to quit growing up so I can keep enjoying the same books.

Sometimes I think about how one of my favorite independently published book series doesn't have an Audible version, and I think about volunteering to read it on a recording for them. ...I wonder if my lack of professional experience, my monotone voice, or my stutter would cause a problem... Nah!

Had to double-check to make sure I was reading a YA novel, and not a NA. Then I saw it was co-written by Rachel Caine. ...Well, that explains a lot.

Anyone else have an under-appreciated book or books series that you thoroughly enjoyed? I was going through my list of favorite books and saw Riser (Riser Saga) by Becca C Smith wasn't getting the love that I wish it would. What other books or book series would you add?

Okay, so a mythological demigod is after me. My life is in certain danger. So...I'm going to sneak out alone to go to a party with my friends. Because, reasons. Don't ask me why.

Struggling with this one. The Korean mythology and culture is very interesting, but the writing isn't clicking with me. What I'm being shown is a teenage girl facing crazy, spooky stuff with all the excitement of watching paint dry, but then I'm told that she was really scared. Could have fooled me. I think the writing could use a bit more punch. Less tell, more show.

I used a meme for my profile pic because I love Harry Potter and I thought it was funny. The words fit perfectly in the square, but now it's a circle and the words don't fit. So, do I leave it as is or find a new picture? #GoodreadsProblems

If the Harry Potter universe were real, then someone could cast Obliviate on me to erase my memory. Then I would be able to read the Potter series again for the first time. That would be sweet bliss.

When you post something trying to be funny but then realize this is Goodreads, not Facebook. So that voice in the back of your head says, "We have a more sophisticated sense of humor around these parts, boy. Your immature shenanigans will get ya banned!" :-)

I hate depression. Not only does it get in the way of life, but it also gets in the way, sometimes, of truly amazing books. I'm really enjoying The Heart Forger, but it also has a dark edge to the atmosphere. When I'm barely able to get out of bed and function, reading a dark book isn't necessarily helpful. Ugh. Did I say that I hate depression?

It kind of bugs me that she hasn't been home to see her family yet. She refers to them occasionally, but I'm still waiting for that classic fantasy moment where the hero/heroine returns home and the family is in awe at how amazing their child/sibling has become. I'm a sucker for that moment.

If someone rates a book and there is NO possible way they could have read an ARC or other pre-release material (*cough* Rage, Cora Carmack*cough*), then I have zero interest in following any of their reviews. Credibility = gone

Feeling bad after I went back and looked at how many books I have on my DNF shelf. I know I was going through some rough stuff in my life and quit some of those sooner than I should have. I think I need to make another attempt at some of them. Anybody else ever feel that way, or is it just me?

If I hear, "It was labeled dystopian, so I was expecting a book like The Hunger Games," one more time, I might yank out some hair. First of all, THG is more post-apocalyptic than dystopian. Secondly, just because a book is set in a messed up future, that doesn't make it like THG. There were plenty of dystopian and post-apocalyptic books before THG was published. Expand your literary horizons. #bookrant

I see why this book is so popular, but I wish there was more of a focus on what is going on in the present. "I look at the Firebird, which reminds me of Paul. Now, I will spend a few pages remembering my interactions with Paul. I look at Theo. Here's a few pages remembering that one time I was attracted to Theo. Oh, but now that reminds me of what happened with Paul while I was painting. Let me tell you about it."

I get confused easily. This is the second time I have accidentally typed the name of the book I was searching for in the "What are you reading?" search box. Then I have to go to My Books and remove it from "Currently Reading" then try to remember if I had it added to another shelf, like "Want to Read". I need to pay closer attention to the box I'm using to search. What a pain. Ugh.

Really impressed with this one so far. For a self-published book it is really well done. The only thing it could use is some editing. Not editing of spelling and the like, but editing of some of the unneeded sentences. It has felt a bit redundant at times, but that is a very small complaint for a fun story like this one.

I can see why some of the reviewers didn't like the writing style. It's taking a bit of extra work to get past the info-dumps and the telling-not-showing, but I think I will really like the story, itself, if I keep pressing on. Time for a self-pep-talk and a cup of coffee!

Why do I want to read "Uprooted" again? I thought the book was okay, but I didn't love it... so why can't I get it out of my head? Oh yeah... it's because books are my drug. :-)

Finally broke down and bought the Audible narration for this one. This is one of my favorite books, so I thought I'd try out Amazon Audible for the first time on a book I loved. So far, so good.
