I don't get why this book is so highly rated. Nothing of major critical significance has happened so far. The plot reads like a terrible script for a TV serial. The characters speak like American teenagers despite living in a village with variable access to basic education. Hoping to wrap this up asap so I can move on to something better.

Surprised by the glowing reviews this book has. 10+% done and the story is going nowhere. In fact it has barely started! Hoping it gets better from this point.

Interestingly whimsical shorts on a wide range of everyday people. Murakami doing what he does best. Keeps things relatable. Looking forward to more.

Book 2 complete. Lot more gravity in narrative this time. Doraipuram and it's inception was interesting. Kannan emerging from childish obscurity. Has a godfather like feel to the trilogy approach but too many events packed in too quickly. Hard to connect with most characters. Hoping final instalment packs good punch.

Need to re-read this soon. From start. A great book that needs more time.
