Sometimes an imperfect memory is a blessing in disguise.

Research for the novel I'm working on ... just so you know!

I am fully into the often brutal struggles of Robert de Brus and his followers, as they struggle against the King of England for a free and sovereign Scotland in the early fourteenth century.

The further into the story, the writing is improving, and I'm getting a better sense for the man who was Robert de Brus, Earl of Cardiff, then King of Scots.

As an author, it's nice to learn that We (I) Are (Am) Not Alone ... in that I love to write and I don't love to sell / market. Kristen Lamb is successful at both, and I already see that she is going to help me be more successful (while avoiding pi$$ing everyone off), too.

As historical fiction, the story is fascinating so far. The writing, however, is taking me out of the reader's dream a bit too often, but I'm only a short way in. Perhaps that will improve.

I bought this signed trilogy from the authors at the Stone Mountain Highland Games in 2007. I just finished the twenty-six page Historical Background, a concise history of the ongoing struggles between Scotland and England from 845 AD to 1305 AD, including the rise of William Wallace, his eventual defeat at Falkirk, and his ultimate, brutal demise at the hands of Edward, King of England.

It's been a while since I've read a John Grisham story. Calico Joe is a hard-to-put-down book, and I'm thoroughly enjoying his treatment of the first person POV.
