The first chapter lays out the dilemma that 'common' evangelical Christianity has as a Transactional Faith. It doesn't work for most people. What Bailey is proposing (in line with Foster & Willard) is a Transformational Faith. If I hadn't read this first part I would have hated this book, now I think I can understand it.
