Soooo good now.

A lot of existentialist thinking… great questions, that make me ponder.

How is life meaningful?
Can we all make a difference?

I’m a HUGE fan of the Fool - a brilliant character, who just grows, while avoiding to accumulate Gary Stu traits like Fitz.

Fitz seems to be growing into a messiah. It worries me. A bit too much like ordinary fantasy. But it’s not settled yet 🤞🏻

The slow burn build up from the first book is paying off.

Such a great read! Much more plot, action, and character development happening. At much higher pace.

Enjoying it!

Just around 18 minutes into the audiobook and already sold.

Ahhhh! This is how good writing feels. How a multifaceted and real-feeling character grows out of letters and sentences. Annoying, charming, confusing, tragic, someone I want to know more about.

I just came from 3 books about Drizzt, one of the most popular fantasy characters out there. My critique of these books is further reinforced after reading this.

Infuriatingly good and annoying at the same time.

I remember that I loved reading Borges many years ago.

So I started listening to this collection of his short stories…

So many of these are impossible to follow unless you concentrate fully. And even then many are just impossible to follow. They’re not meant to be followed.

Some are just annoying. But others are small miracles. Perhaps more than small.

I feel SO PRIVILEGED that such amazing books are available.

I love the scope of this masterpiece. How it interweaves distant stories, people and times into a grand tale giving sense to everything from the tiniest acts and moments to huge swaths of history.

I truly care about the characters. I’ve already felt immense stings of both sadness and joy.

Bravo!

All the praise that it has received is so well deserved!

This is such an emotionally and humanly beautiful story.

It’s masterfully written. So playful and expressive. Literature at its best!

Every word brings us closer to the key characters. Every chapter increases the stakes and emotional resonance.

There is nothing surprising here. It’s all about deep human truths. But hey… there’s so much to this truth. Makes me feel human and makes me reflect on my own life.

I’m about 40 minutes into this book and already love LOVE it!

*This* is how storytelling should be done.

I’m listening to it on audible, where it’s narrated by the author Daniel Nayeri.

The story, the reading, the voice, the language, the mental pictures, the utter power of the author’s narrative confidence feels like Neil Gaiman felt to me (before his wall from grace… now I can’t enjoy him anymore).

I looooooooooove listening to this this book. The unfolding setting. The main character. The magic. The language. The insights it is based on. Uuuh… so much intellectual and narrative joy 🥰🥰🥰

Seeking recommendations

I'm looking for something similar to the Expanse series. I've devoured the Expanse books and love the series as well.

I love the high pace (there is always something interesting going on), the dramatically expanding plotlines, the ongoing discovery of ever more wonderful/nightmarish technologies (that still make sense) and the interdependence of high tech, politics and personal drama.

This is an interesting list of books by one of my favourite authors, China Miéville.

Ended buying most of them...
