Was keen to read this original 1818 version after watching the Mary Shelly movie with my parents. Wanted to read the version that she wrote as a teenager, not the one that she edited and updated as an adult (keen to read that one day though).

I also watched Guillermo del toros movie a couple weeks before starting this. The creature is way more cutesie and sweet in that movie omg. Vs how murderous in writing

Finished this last night. Liked it but also may have been a bit distracted in the last chapter bc I kept thinking abt our irl traitors night woopsie

We studied this in yr 12 extension English but im now fairly sure that i did not read one page. I had such a strong memory of reading Frankenstein and his assistant digging up graves - like I thought that’s how the book started - but that did not happen at all???

A bit overcomplicated, but okay. Id rank it lower on the PKD books I’ve read, but it was still enjoyable.

The bit where kongrosian was accidentally extending himself to other objects reminded me of Vita Notre, where the main character did something similar. Fun idea to become a table, then a room, then a house etc

A bit confused so far 😅 there are so many characters and POV switches it’s hard to keep track

Hoping it’ll make more sense as i go on

Really liked it in the end. Took me a while to warm up to it (was bored until around 40% in) but I really liked the romance in the end. Was surprised at how much I was crying, most likely can blame it on hormones.

Rlly keen to watch the movie and discuss this for book club

4-4.5 I think. Need to deduct a little for how bored I was in the first half

Really enjoyed this, was hard to put down.

I was up to just the final two people last night before I had to go to bed. Was dreaming about what could happen next this morning, and it was after 7:30 since George was already gone, so I woke myself up and started reading hehe

I did watch a tv miniseries of this some years ago, but only the last episode. I couldn’t remember enough to spoil me when reading though

VERY repetitive. I’m sure the original essay was good, not sure it needed to be expanded into a mini book.

Fun. I liked it

I hear Nesta’s book is good, so I’m down to read that. I’m not sure about the books in between though, like this winter solstice one up next. Idk maybe I’ll just leave them as options for when I’m in a romantasy mood

I don’t think this is a good pre-bed book for me tho. Memoirs never seem to help me sleep. Maybe I’ll read the next fairy romance book in conjunction with this

I liked young Nina. And the chef + Andrey, bishop was fun. But the count?? Idk he never won me over - which is maybe why the book didn’t either. I know he’s Supposed to be witty and charming and kind and yadda yadda but idk. I think I must have a thing against writers trying to be charming maybe? I remember really disliking Neil gaiman’s humour in neverwhere and I wonder if this is similar?

Ending and the lead up was interesting. But I don’t think it made up for the rest.

There must be something wrong with me. Sooooo many people seem to love this book. While I only found it to be 🤷‍♀️ Okay. This is the second time this has happened to me in the last couple months so maybe I’m just dense lol idk

Finding this to be a little boring :/ I thought I’d get more into it as I went on but I’m halfway through and still feel meh

I really liked this!! Found it to be very beautiful and special. Enjoyed the writing, characters, everything. I think this might is one of my fave reading challenge books of this year, after I Who Have Never Known Men

Lovelyyyyy I was squealing with captain wentworth’s letter. This edition came with an alternate chapter for the confession/reveal. Defs like the published version better

Enjoyed this. It was cool to have a diff kind of Austen protag and family. One who was more quiet than charismatic, but sensible and kind. I still think P&P and Emma rank above this for me but I liked it more than sense and sensibility
