Rereading the book that got me into horror novels. Also, if you thought the excessive gaslighting was a byproduct of the author being a man and not in fact one of the horrific experiences women go through when facing the trauma of challenging systemic authority (aka what the author is trying to illustrate), I can’t help you.

Very mixed feelings about someone finally telling Lyssa what an ass she is just thirty pages before the end of the book.

Those comp titles are doing A LOT of heavy lifting.

Time for a little reread with the audiobook before Fragile Threads comes out!

This book is unhinged and also very fun.

“I don’t think you need to be so focused on labels…it’s what you want to be and how you think of other people. Even if some people are similar, no one’s 100% the same orientation as you. On the other hand, if you can figure out a label, it helps you find people similar to you, and that’s a good thing. At least, if you can be comfortable with that.”

I think I’m going to have to accept that RR is not for me. Her writing style is so HEAVY - heavy with exposition and full of heavy-handed metaphors. Don’t get me started on ONE PIECE OF ARMOR DOWN TO LET THE LIGHT THROUGH FOR YOUR SPECIAL PERSON like I didn’t like it in Anma Karenina and I’m not going to like it here sheeeesh

You don’t have to punch readers in the face with your metaphors.

Seriously Feyre’s whole thing was having powers no one had dealt with before and yet her “journey” was all about getting the space she needed and being treated with respect LOOK IN A MIRROR RHYS JESUS CHRIST

Everyone knows the best way to help someone who self-harms and doesn’t want to live is to keep secrets from them, make decisions on their behalf behind their back, and then throw them into the wilderness for pointing out hypocrisy.

Rhys absolutely sucks in this book. No one gets better by being constantly taunted and jeered at while trying to heal. Come get your man, Feyre.

While SJM’s writing has improved tremendously over the course of this series, I’m tired. Book 2 is easily my favorite and I haven’t been as charmed by these characters since; the development for them hasn’t been as meaningful—they’ve been at my house too long and I need to kick them out at this point.

This book is vindicating every shitty moment I had in publishing oh my fucking god yes

June is DASTARDLY and DIABOLICAL and I haven’t had this much fun reading about someone this morally reprehensible perhaps ever

So far got the publishing industry PEGGED.

This book is so, so long.
