tbh the narrator of the audiobook made it hard for me to feel immersed but I feel like this may be one of my favourite books in a while!

this has one or two h*rry p*tter references every chapter and it's really cringe and makes this book nigh unreadable

Luc is just rehashing the same shit over and over again in arguments to the point where it's almost unreadable. Like he knows everything he's saying is uncouth and he just barrels through. Like at least have some justification instead of implying lack of free will.

Why would they move their food to a cooler from the fridge when the power goes out and then throw in loose ice cubes?? You're just going to make your food soggy and expose it to warmer temps for longer?? The fridge was already acting as a cooler??

God I love these books.

I don't know if I'm going to finish it. I get having unlikeable characters and transphobia and all that but frankly I'm having a really really hard time sympathizing with any of them. It doesn't feel like a realistic high school either, just a caricature of High School Musical's high school, if that. Popularity doesn't work like this. But I'm not American so idk !!

Love this guy. I love his narrative voice, I love the things he says and values, love the kindness with which he talks about people. It's all earnest and earned. There's a bit about him redistributing his allowance from his father to the people his father employs. Taking the responsibility for them purchasing better food and charging it to his father. Reading this is like getting to know a new friend.

if you like or can get past Gary Stus, fridging, the classic she-breasted-boobily trope, some cured cripple miracles, this book may work for you

I'm not at any authoritative point in this book yet but it feels like something I wish were assigned reading in my criminology class. It's US-centric but I think it could be formatted to apply to other countries by just changing up the details tbh

This is really bringing up some stuff for me w/r/t gender stuff (framing two gender categories as "femme" or "masculine" & never actually addressing what it means to be something else without alignment in contexts addressed).

There's a lot of stuff w/r/t gender in here I'm struggling with navigating because of how close an issue transmisogyny is to me, & my butch identity. but I'm still trying to figure out whether this means this book just wasn't meant for me and leaving it be.

It's 5:01am and I need to accept I'm not reading this in one night and force myself to sleep.

I am in awe of actually finding a book that has more than one character who is not a man nor woman. In awe! At last! Also this has made me Almost Cry which is a feat for how medicated I am
