I'm struggling with this book. Can someone tell if it gets better?

I'm confused. This book starts off not where the last one finished. Have I missed a book?

I can't stand the way Jesse treats and talks to Ava as if she is a child. he doesn't want age to be a factor, but he acts like she's a little girl. Argh and he makes her feel responsible for his ridiculous behavior. My stomach is turning at how she accepts this as normal

my only disappointment is that this book is not available in audio. I really enjoyed the first 3 narrated by Michelle Sparks.

hmm. I've read reviews that cast this as nearly identical to FSOG. But for me it's a copy of Crossfire, which is one of my favs. So i hope I'm not dissapointed

Right at this moment Mariss is annoying the piss out of me. Ooh I can't, I'm married,we'll just be friends, blah bla, then she keeps coming on to him, and flirting with him shamelessly, knowing he wants to rip her clothes off and go her. She claims to love her hubby and won't betray him, but spends a damn lot of time with Bash, or Bassy as she revoltingly calls him

Also, I find it a bit irritating that Aedion was cooped up, and too recognisable to be let out of the apartment except for the one night with Aelin and the city guard, but she has a tiff with him, then tells him to get out and not come back until he calms down. he is in pain, and danger, and she just flung him out. .

why there is such animosity, almost hatred between Chaol and Aelin. I was hoping for a better reconnection. i can see where it's heading with Rowan, and not what I wanted.
