Everyone is now discussing how they don’t like Ladislaw after Casaubon asked him to not visit. I am tired of this book.

This is one heck of a drag of a book!

This is a good read, am interested in the story arc for each protagonist here - am annoyed with Anna but I guess she is so in love with Vronsky!

I like Rowell’s stories, especially the trope where the leads meet after a few years are in middle age. But this book is a drag. All of Cherry’s sisters sound toxic, not supportive, in not accepting that Cherry & Tom are divorcing. Cherry’s mom is the worst.
Cherry herself doesn’t seem to like herself much. She behaves like she has accepted reality but is constantly doing things to hurt herself. Bleh!

Ugh, what a disagreeable fellow Casaubon is!

And so Gabriel Oak and the fair dark-haired maiden in the crimson coat meet each other.

I think am slowly getting the hang of this book. Lydgate just got engaged, Casaubon is unwell and the old man just died.

Both heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time!

Classic Patchett prose… gorgeous

Quite slow to pick up, this book.

Good read, but am not seeing why this won the Booker.

Am waiting to see why this is a popular book.

This book isn’t going it for me. It is the narration, I think. Too forced. The premise about life after death is inventive , and the background setup about a Lanka at war is interesting, but I couldn’t care for Maali , and I wasn’t curious about his death or whom he was going to see.

Premise sounds interesting , Violet feels cute and Nathaniel feels the right amount of grumpy.
