I just finished The King's Hounds (The King's Hounds series Book 1) and gave it 4 stars.The king in question is Cnut and it's a Medievil murder mystery--the "hounds" being a manuscript illuminator and a young displaced Saxon nobleman that the king conscripts to solve the murder in question.Good characterization and a well-constructed plot make in an enjoyable read.

Another world of magic and mythology superimposed on the mundane, with totally amoral Dark Mages, and Light Mages who follow the rules with other mages, but see non-mages as mere irrelevant sheep. Alex Verus is a deviner mage who can see the threads of probability in the future, leading to talented problem-solving...
