Great book! Fine writing makes me want to copy out a good amount of quotes. Stories that are leaving me feel good a long time after I had set the book aside to do other things.

What a great book! Read a little before going to bed. Also before going to bed my wife asked for a cookie, so I baked 6 squares of the frozen chocolate chip. She ate 1, I ate the other 5. I forgot that keeps me awake. Got up 12:30 AM, kept reading until after 2 AM. Hard to put down and love the writing!

Love the choice of a class of 'compensated anarchist.' Seems a label people don't use in real life but should with all the people being paid to protest by NGO's that were funded by USAID.

Loving the book! I feel so welcomed into her family from the details of the book and applaud all who are involved with rescues.

Listening to this book on audible. Someone please tell me it gets better. I don't like the narrator, he feels like he is over-acting to be dramatic. It is always a different experience listening to someone reading the book to you then reading a physical copy, so with a bad narrator it is hard to know how much the book is at fault.

I am somewhere in chapter 3 in my listening in audible. Someone please tell me it will get better. The 2nd son prince and the narrator does a great job of being pretentious, but that doesn't make it enjoyable to me.
And if the rival chieftain or king gave me her beautiful daughter and she said 'he will kill me if you don't marry me' I would have called his bluff.

Goblin King: No one told me she was a spell-breaker
Adam: No one told her that either.

As I listened on audible for my 3.2 mile walk, almost the entire walk was taken up with one battle with what turns out to be two foes. This as opposed to Fourth Wing where they spent the same time whining and bickering as a young teenager love spat.

My son gave me this book for Christmas. Amazing with all the dog books I own and am aware of, I hadn't heard of this one. Hope everyone is having a Merry Christmas and happy holiday time.

Not a big fan when dogs are the narrator because often unrealistic. The prologue an example already:

'I'd seen her before. Emily Main was a beautiful young woman in her late twenties. Auburn hair cascaded around her shoulders and shone like a new penny. Wish my jet-black coloring, we'd make a striking couple.'

Can anyone imagine a dog thinking any of that?

"It's not Madness, ma'am," replied Mr. bumble, after a few moments of deep meditation. "It's Meat."

"What!" exclaimed Mrs. Sowerberry.

"Meat, ma'am, meat," replied Mr. Bumble, with stern emphasis. "You've overfed him, ma'am.

My GR friend Devin the Book Dragon recommended this book and I am so glad. I am in chapter 13, which on audible is hard to know what page number that is, but the book is wonderful. Love having a book I want to rush to listen to more of it. Also love how they have a lady and a guy reading their respective parts, and with delicious English accents.

LOTs of Poems asking or saying that Dogs belong in heaven. here is the end of one:
Lifting its head, no less
Cajoling a caress.
Our winsome collie wraith,
Than in glad faith

The door will open wide.
Or kind voice bid: " Abide,
A threshold soul to greet
The longed-for feet."

Ah, Keeper of the Portal,
If Love be not immortal,
If Joy he not divine,
What prayer is mine?

Now he shares my board, and he owns my bed,
And he fairly shouts when he hears my tread.
Then if things go wrong, as they sometimes do.
And the world is cold, and I'm feeling blue.
He asserts his right to assuage my woes
With a warm, red tongue and a nice, cold nose,
And a silky head on my arm or knee,
And a paw as soft as a paw can be.

I've got a dog, and so, you see,
The boys all want to play with me;
They think he's such a cunnin' brute
(I mean, so cute).
That's why they leave their toys and games.
And run to us, and shout our names,
Whenever me and Pete arrive;
For I've
Got a dog!

Nice to see it has Rudyard Kipling's The Power of the Dog in it. This book is definitely going into my list of favorites. Here's a bit from it-

When the body that lived at your single will.
With its whimper of welcome, is stilled (how still!);
When the spirit that answered your every mood
Is gone — wherever it goes — for good,
You will discover how much you care,
And will give your heart to a dog to tear.

A bit out of another poem today:

An' that dog's got the stayin' powers
A long sight more 'n the most o' men;
He 's just clean grit an' " stay there " mixed
An' don't ask no odds how an' when.

See them big slashes on his sides,
All runnin' ever' which-a-way?
Well, if it was n't fer them scars
I 'd not be top o' ground to-day.
