There are two parts to this book:
1. Dr Viktor’s telling of his personal experience in the concentration camp and observations on what kept the inmates alive.
2. What is logotherapy.

The first part is a very interesting read. Indeed, this book is a classic! The second part, which I’m now at, is more technical and talks about psychological methods.

Audrey is 35% done with Edith Stein, Marcel Callo, Titus Brandsma: Victims of the Nazis (20th Century Martyrs)
I began reading backwards - from Titus Brandsma, an OCarm. I'm done with Titus. He is (yes, he still is! And he is moving towards sainthood!) such an inspiring figure, especially to us his fellow Carmelites.

I was trying to find out if he met any other Catholic holocaust saints while in Dachau camp.

"To draw an analogy: a man's suffering is similar to the behaviour of gas. If a certain quantity of gas is pumped into an empty chamber, it will fill the chamber completely and evenly, no matter how big the chamber. Thus suffering completely fills the human soul and conscious mind, no matter whether the suffering is great or little. Therefore the 'size' of human suffering is absolutely relative."

This is insightful!

Oh, that “ah” moment!

“When Mary, the mother of Jesus, invites him to provide the wine at the wedding at Cana, she too is implicitly requesting that Jesus take the role of the Bridegroom Messiah and provide the miraculous wine of the wedding banquet of YHWH....”

The reason Jesus celebrates the Last Supper with the twelve disciples is that together they represent the bride of God -- the people of Israel. [1]

Reading how Fr Benedict (just as he prefers to be called) sees Creation is just mind blowing.

Blame it on my English. Otherwise the description of the Creator is really beautiful. Makes me love Benedict XVI even more.

Going into the 'dark days', as I call it, the days when Lolek was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. I shall get my heart ready... to see our Lolek in pain is a pain in my own heart.

"The reason that God is giving us grace to know him through the life of prayer is for us to do something (good works)." - Fr Aloysius Deeney, OCD. Not only are the Carmelites called to participate in the mission of the Church, the call is for all the faithful. "Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead." - James 2:17

More warfare being mentioned. But the more I read the more I can feel the concerns JPII had for Poland, for Israel, and discrimination against the Jews. I've started to enjoy every page of the book as it takes me into the heart of my beloved Pope.

Kluger wrote a lot on the wars in he Eastern Europe and how they affected the local people, especially the Jews. I envied the friendship shared between Karol and Kluger, even after Karol was elected Pope.
