this is a horror novel, actually, and I am terrified of the fact that there are still over a hundred pages left to hurt me

everything is awful and this scene is so stressful that I want to stop reading, so I guess well done??? 😭

I understand why some people say this book is too slow, because it is slow, but I like it lol. tana french can spoon-feed me all the leisurely psychological atmosphere

i always tell people i don’t have any enemies but every time saint augustine and i meet when i’m reading a history of ideas/religion (which is often) we brawl to the death in a denny’s parking lot

I can never decide whether mann’s depictions of women in this book are progressive or misogynist, because he does delve deep into their psychology and give them interesting, complex motivations, but it’s also in a way that’s kind of like…Oh, Maybe Not Like That lmfao. I feel like he’s trying, at least???

I love all of the similar ideas/themes to Joseph and His Brothers - you can see so many seeds of thought planted here which come to fruition in Joseph, and I think in a way both books are trying to explore the same thing.

i remain convinced that the books people describe as too long and boring are actually the most interesting books of all time. my man is over here deconstructing the biological experience of time, and ppl complain?? for what???

there’s a point in all these books where they Get Kind Of Real but this one especially has been and continues getting real

everything about pratchett’s dwarves is just so, SO very fascinating to me and i love it so much

i haven't had much time in the past few days to read this bc of work but now i have a couple days off to dig into it and the idea of a vimes-centric time travel plot which will surely put me thru the ringer? truly genius. magnifique
