Terrific adventure novel, putting some context to the area between Afghanistan and Pakistan. Furious characters keep the action moving. A fun read!

I'm re-reading this classic of misdirection and deception, and enjoying it more this time. There are abundant references to mythology, psychology, Jung, and other arcane matters. Overall, the author makes the reader feel he is being drawn into a maze that gets deeper as the story progresses. Very exciting and involving!

I had been bored by the first 350 pages of this book, and put it down to read other books. I picked it up again a few days ago and began to plow through the next 350 pages, and I liked it much more. It's a wild book now, with some theological ideas interspersed with the apocalyptic disaster that had been suffered. It's still a rough book, with gory, bloody, violent scenes but it has some deep thoughts.

Taking a break from Dombey and Son by Dickens. Originally published in a series of publications, so the public could mull them over, discuss them, anticipate the next chapters, before the next bit was published. There is no need to swallow it all in one sitting. So, I'm taking a break to read some shorter books. Then I'll return!

Had to take a break. Not a very involving book so far.

It is such a pleasure to read this long novel of Charles Dickens for the second time. I return to it frequently in between tackling other challenging works. Dickens' scenes, his characters, his descriptions, his ear for dialogue, are all so brilliant that any serious writer needs to sample at least some of this wonderful novel. No, it's not easy, but it is rewarding.

More to follow.

Crazy book. Like John Irving on bad drugs. Lots of movie and book trivia, lots of white self-loathing, lots of imagination. I shall persist.

This 160-year-old book captivated this reader from the first few chapters. The characters are introduced so well that you will never forget them, much less confuse them as this long novel progresses.

You have to read this book for Halloween!

Okay, usually I wait until I've finished a book before giving a review, but this book is SO good. The author borrowed the best of Stephen King -- the world of children, their point of view, and the evil that exists but only they can see -- and mixed it with some exciting font changes. (Exciting font changes? Yes, it's cool.)
