I'm gonna be real, I love Liz, but I don't know how she's gonna get herself outta this one!! I don't know how she's gonna make a decent person out of the sociopathic male lead, let alone a desirable object of fantasy. Bc we've seen this guy mess up people's lives for the past however many books and my opinion on him is: fuck this dude!! I kinda wanted him to die!!

Oh and also it was already strange she would be so fluent in French after one year of instruction, now she and Higgens are both fluent in Spanish bc 2 years ago a 10 year old taught them how over a summer??? And this has never come up before

Okay so things started getting weird last book, structure-wise, but this takes the cake. Just throwing in Flaco like Oh by the way, here's another character from the 3rd book who was just never mentioned (until last book). Pretty lazy. Also like really shoots holes in her "I'm not a pirate" defense, having literally sold with a literal pirate and split prizes with him.... Yikes

Pulling out the classic fake married trope, coupled with only one bed!!! Liz you've done it again! Also these two characters have been around for several books so I already was fond of them, so happy to see them get their time in the spotlight! Phoebe deserves love!!!

This whole time I've been not at all interested in Nick or Rachel, they just seem...off to me? I knew it was the dialogue, but couldn't put my finger on it. I think it's that Rachel (is annoying) is supposed to be American, but her speech patterns are a bit off, the diction is strange. I assume because the author likely speaks British English? If you say all the dialogue in a British accent it doesn't sound as weird.

It is very hard to feel sorry for this person who just makes so many avoidable bad choices over and over, pretending she's not being selfish.....I don't find her compelling or sympathetic

Boy oh boy this one is shaping up to be a doozy......miss Stephanie here has made some BAD choices and also is obviously obsessed with her best friend in an intense way. Also she never describes herself or Emily as "women," only "moms," which is disturbing to me, as a person who is very invested in becoming a mother. Maybe when I have a 5yr old and a mommy blog I'll understand? Lol

So, I got this from the library on audio, knowing only it was popular enough (or had a big enough advertising budget) that I had seen it around pretty frequently. I am about an hour in and I have literally zero idea who the book is about, when it is set, who any of the characters are and what their relationships are to each other. I think one of them is a young boy? Not sure how long I will be going with this one.

Honestly this is kind of hard to read...so many long winding sentences, it's hard to keep track of what's actually being said at all. Also. Not spooky yet!!!
