I am so confused. What is even going on? Could do with a bit of exposition rn.

Picked this up because I liked the cover, and I didn't bother reading the synopsis. Two things so far:

1. Who names their kid Lore? I'll just do myself a favour and imagine it's short for Lorelai.
2. The modern setting was...unexpected.
