Read a chapter or two of a book for like the first time in… months? My life is in ashes around me and I’ve spent 8 of the last 10 weeks in the hospital and have been at hospital #3 since Saturday. It has been a freaking hellish season of life and I’ve lost so much in life.

Lots going on, sorry for my absence. I know I have messages from a bunch of you- thanks! Hopefully will be in a place to catch up (& read again!) soon.

I just learned Joan Didion died last week. And I just needed to be in a bookish space to express my sadness. She was more than just one of my all time favorite writers but the kind of writer I have always wished I could be and the reason I fell in love with essays.

This one is growing on me a lot but while I’m far younger than the protagonists, I’ve been thinking through a lot of similar stuff this past year and ha reading from a hospital bed so… bleak but oddly comforting.

Real people don’t talk like this. It absolutely bums me out when authors fail so badly at dialogue and this entire chapter is just dialogue. I’m sure there are people who wish or want to pretend they speak this way but no one actually does. At all. So ehhhh….

Ahh. A couple of the earlier essays were rough then there’s a soul crushing one about her mom and her childhood and then this got so good and funny. And weird I guess but she’s weird and gut disease-y like me so eh.

Ugh. Not true. West was snorting her meds
