Amanda is starting The Monster in the Hollows (The Wingfeather Saga, #3)
Plot. Where the bork is it? We’re at Hogwarts, but where the monsters at?

Plot pulls you through the story, so it’s no wonder we’re stalling.

Loving it, but at my speed, 1,405 poems left doesn’t bode well for this library book!

Surprising content for this being juvenile lit. I am wanting to like it — but I was disappointed at one scene in particular. Glad I was reading aloud so I could censor for my daughter.

Amanda is starting How to Teach Your Children Shakespeare
I’m back in college, listening to a passionate teacher talking Shakespeare. I love that my four year old has jumped onboard with memorizing from A Midsummer Nights Dream. She is faster than I am!

All heroic endeavour, and all that is known as art, assumes that there is such a background, just as all practical endeavour, when the world is to our taste, assumes that the world is all

She had come to that state where the horror of the universe and its smallness are both visible at the same time—the twilight of the double vision in which so many elderly people are involved. If this world is not to our taste, well, at all events there is Heaven, Hell, Annihilation-- one or other of those large things, that huge scenic background of stars, fires, blue or black air...

All over Chandrapore that day the Europeans were putting aside their normal personalities and sinking themselves in their com- munity. Pity, wrath, heroism, filled them, but the power of put- ting two and two together was annihilated. Terminating the interview, the Collector walked on to the platform.

Aziz was charmed and interested, and turned the new idea over in his mind. So this was why Mr. Fielding and a few were so fearless! They had nothing to lose. But he himself was rooted in society and Islam. He belonged to a tradition which bound him, and he had brought children into the world, the sod. ety of the future. Though he lived so vaguely in this flimsy bun. galow, nevertheless he was placed, placed.

“Mr. Fielding, no one can ever realize how much kindness we Indians need, we do not even realize it ourselves. But we know when it has been given. We do not forget, though we may seem to. Kindness, more kindness, and even after that more kindness. I assure you it is the only hope."

“But she did not take the disappointment as seriously as Miss Quested, for the reason that she was forty years older, and had learnt that Life never gives us what we want at the moment that we consider appropriate. Adventures do occur, but not punctually.”

Delightful to read aloud, the long sentences just roll off the tongue. Daughter chose this since Dahl is one of her favorite authors—brother heard it being read aloud and ran to listen in as well.

Almost finished... wow, what a beautiful book. Spellbinding prose. Awe-inspiring faith. I’ve cried so many tears. Just when I think Joni’s arrived spiritually, she shares another pain, another moment of anguish as God prunes her. We need to hear that! Sanctification isn’t finished on this side of life ...
