In fact I think she's the first character to be described as "grotesque" and there's a guy with fake sabre teeth too big for his mouth to close

a pet peeve i've developed while reading criticism of this poem (and something i first encountered in the introduction to this edition) is a tendency of male chaucerians to use the term "antifeminism/antifeminist" instead of misogyny/misogynistic. its so weird and anachronistic it just pisses me off for no reason. it might be an 80s thing but it feels wrong to characterise a pre-feminism text as antifeminist?! anyway
