I’ve lost sense of the plot and I’m just enjoying the sentences.

Literally, the first 25% of the book is perfect — not just for this story, but for any story in any genre. This one is about love.

This book could make you a fan of tuberculosis. I don’t fully understand the ethics of disease, or what specific emotion is stirred by the knowledge of something deadly. But I feel like a child who cannot take his eyes off a catastrophe

I remembered the scene from the movie Twilight where vampires played baseball, masking the sound of the bat hitting the ball with thunder. In this story, the Soviet Union attempted to cover up the explosion of a hydrogen bomb with the sound of a baseball bat hitting the ball.
