the timeline of this book is structured around 7 different rounds of mech battles, and this could easily have gotten boring and repetitive, but it’s NOT. each of the opponents is a unique, interesting, fully fleshed out character; different techniques are used in each fight; during each round we learn vital information about the world and the mechs! it’s masterfully written

“He’s mad. But for once, I want to believe in his madness, too.” it is so incredibly refreshing to have a PLATONIC m/f relationship that’s intense, complicated, and ever evolving in world of fantasy books that are increasingly dominated by romance and a lack of complex platonic relationships!!!
