So, we have about 700 pages of setting up rules and characters and the setting, so we can really tight 150 page thriller in which a character has to figure her way out of a problem before she gets gobbled by a dragon.

I'm starting to think that the character modeled after a combination of Peter Thiel and Mark Zuckerberg might be bad news. I probably should have recognized that a lot sooner.

So the structure here is a series of novellas in which the characters have solve or escape a problem caused by their little faustian bargain in book 1? If so, I think that's pretty fun. Book 2 is about Allie and Van on a plane that will be incinerated by midnight if they don't kill a particular man that they don't even know by sight

Finished book one

Overall, this is well written, but at one point a character said hey "without bothering to say hello" and I'm really struggling to get over it.

"As if the answer to everything wrong in her life could be so easy, the most natural thing in the world; destruction."

Interweaving time periods are interesting in how they connect to each other. How do the events of 2018 change my interpretation of 1968 and should they?

So far, both romances are very sweet, but the feeling that everything is going to go wrong has become a bit overwhelming

I must have been reading a lot of trash lately because the prose of this book gives me that feeling I get when I have a good home cooked meal after eating only fast food for a week.

So, I kind of think this should end either with Beck deciding she doesn't need the mystery to be solved or with her destroying herself in her obsession with it. Some kind of scenario where she solves it and then becomes emotionally content just seems like trying to have your cake and eate it too.

This feels a lot stronger and more confident than I remember her first book being, and far of its own thing whereas the first felt like a YA version of It

I don't think this event is necessarily longer than most (the actual event had six issues), but this is one of the rare marvel trades that actually includes everything that's directly related to the story (and then collected in a coherent order). It's refreshing

Trying to actually read this. Returning to it, I had forgotten how funny it is. It's often laugh out loud funny. It is also so exhausting.

It's nice to see them finally considering whether it was entirely positive to pass around all those babies like bargaining chips

I tried to set my reading goal to -5 books. It wouldn't let me. I was going to unread 5 books! Goodreads is so limited in its imagination.
