Hmm. Well, I’m glad I got this from the used bookstore. I got it because I liked the TV show. I wasn’t expecting a Pulitzer Prize winning novel or super spice, but… I don’t know how I feel about this.

The human to human interactions in this book have me thinking ‘this is ridiculous and unbelievable. No one acts like this.’ But the animal interactions have me concerned

This Bacardi has me anxious. As someone who listens to nonstop, continual true crime, podcasts, I feel like this is some kind of warning letter for people to really be careful about what they’re getting into.

That’s how this entire book makes me feel. Rotten. I don’t know if I can keep reading it. I want to, everyone’s reading it, everyone’s talking about it and seeing how good it is. And I am just so uncomfortable. And I’m pretty sure that’s the point. The main character is racist, unlikable, mean rude, and all those other things.

Okay the point of this book is to make readers wildly uncomfortable with the callousness and sheer entitlement of the MC, right? She’s infuriating

Glad I’m reading this on kindle cause I’m having to get definitions for at least 1 word per page

There’s something to be said for a story that slowly unfolds. That’s not this, so far. I have no idea what is happening and I don’t like that

Im very invested in this story, even though there’s something about it I don’t like. I just am not sure what it is. Maybe it’s Dan? Maybe it’s Max? Maybe it’s the way the dialogue is written? Idk. But im very much enjoying the story.

Man. I am glad we FINALLY get to hear her story in her words. We’ve only ever heard it in everyone else’s words. And this solidifies my disdain of JT. Heartthrob my ar$e

So far, so good. I did have to Google and see when this book was supposed to take place. If my googling is correct, then it would be around 1813. Also, I always really want to like Mexican Gothic books, but the few I have read just haven’t done it for me. I have high hopes for this one.

So far, Natalie is very unlikable

I want to like this book. I like the author. It is well written. The characters are interesting. The storyline is interesting. But I’ve checked it out from the library twice now and I just can’t make any real progress on it. I’m not giving up, but I’m going to put it back on the shelves for now.

I can see why she would feel guilty, but it is 100% not the main characters fault. Her siblings went to prison. They did that to themselves.

I almost gave up on reading this. It starts off very very slow. I was almost 100 pages in, which is as far as I will read, if I’m unsure about a book, when it got really good.

Bah I just realized this is a series. I’m not in the mood for a series but so far so good

Just a side note. How was this published in 2022 and the cop says “it’s my Indian name” and the teenager/20 something doesn’t call him out? Cause I think the cop is supposed to be likable

I want to know what’s going on in this weird book but it’s not happening fast enough.

I do not understand the reviews that said they weren’t interested in the book. I am hooked. I should be sleeping
