We are at a point in history were health and longevity are at unprecedented heights. Yet, we are also experiencing a newfound sense of obsession and anxiety over our health. Is it because we now have the luxury of worrying?

Murakami’s writing is strikingly eloquent and precise. His humor and vivid imagery does wonders at elevating the atmosphere of the plot.

An incredibly interesting concept for a novel. For a short story it has already covered a plethora of themes, ideas, and taboos. (I had to reread a few parts, but I think that’s due to my lack of sleep and not so much the book itself).

The writing is a pleasure to consume.

“I considered starting with these words: I no longer want to kill you - because I really don’t - but then decided you would think this far too melodramatic.”

Talk about a hook! Interesting start and perspective. Cautiously optimistic about where this is heading.

The number of times I’ve wanted to dnf this book is embarrassing. Fifteen page flips to go. I don’t think anything can occur to redeem the horror of what I’ve read thus far.
