Intense watercraft and military detail, but not much different from, say, Lem’s excursions into details of physics and chemistry, and I abide in him. So, I’m enjoying it so far.

Liked this a lot. I polish my drafts as I go along, so I found his advice on perfecting the third draft very useful. I immediately used it as a guide during two grueling days finishing two short stories. One was 4300 words, and I thought it was done and could not be trimmed at all. After doing the work suggested in this book, it rounded out at 3800 and was not only tighter, but a better read of course.

Thoroughly entertaining. Lem is a genius. And way smarter than I ever imagined myself being. :-)

Actually, the same Solaris translation I read last month. I saw the newer movie version, which was disappointing. It was not different from the book as much as weaker than the book. So I was compelled to pick the book back up and re-read it. I am getting so much more out of it the second time through.

Engaging, well written, descriptive yet very easy to read. Captivating.

A 400-page book is pretty intimidating to a casual reader like me, but the incredible literary prose in much of this book continues to draw me forward. I love India anyway, and so the family story is compelling. The length is warranted; sometimes it's OK for an author to write thoughtfully, and with fine description, and not just advance the plot. If they are good enough, which she is.

Definitely need to get back to this one. Back in old '18, I was not reading much. Nowadays I have two or three books going on at once. So I have just re-requested this title from the library. :-)
August -- still continuing. Great chapter summarizing the basics of calculus. I had been thinking about reviewing calc, and this chapter came into my life. Very happy to read it. Now, onward....
