Does Knox get better as the book goes on cause he’s being a proper dickhead and it’s actually pissing me off

The amount of times the main character has giggled/laughed so far in this book is ridiculous tbh, nothing is even that funny.

I know this book was written in 1911 but Holy Racism Batman!!!
