I selected a book to read. Then I saw a review. Hm, what do other people say about this book? (I should really know better.) Friends, I read the comments and I really shouldn’t have. I don’t have any better sense of the book but I do know now that there are people out there who do not ‘believe in meditation’.

Meagan Healy is on page 21 of 304 of Resilient: How to Grow an Unshakable Core of Calm, Strength, and Happiness
Written with many exercises and example stories from his own life that directly explain the concepts. What I really like is the constant upbeat idea is that you CAN change. And then he immediately says how.

Really, from what I can gather, if you practice these concepts a little bit every day, you will eventually incorporate them into your way of navigating through this world.

Meagan Healy is on page 27 of 300 of Water: A Spiritual History
On the topic of what happens after death, it makes sense that you just ‘log off’ but I have found a more comfortable concept in this book on the spiritual utilities of water. It is a metaphor for dissolving and merging with the infinite.

This concept is borrowed from the natural ‘cycle’ of water, meaning the journey of raindrop to stream to river to ocean.

It’s a pleasant concept.

I am concurrently taking a course by Mr. Vilppu on a variety of subjects: live drawing, gesture, etc. I really recommend this for anyone seeking to draw outdoors, at any level.

Recently visited Winchester, VA, which is the setting of ‘Deer Hunting with Jesus’. I was there to see a rare movie and so I didn’t get a chance to see much of the town, but it was notable that the film club partnered with the town used book store for their raffle. That’s swell and community oriented.

Anyway, wouldn’t have known one bit about the town before going if it wasn’t for that book.

Meagan Healy is starting Deer Hunting with Jesus: Dispatches from America's Class War
I know that I’m nearly halfway through but I can’t remember the page.

Recently visited Winchester, VA to see a movie at a theater there. It seems nice. The people seem nice. Glad I visited.

Still in the Introduction, sat up when I read “[Sociologist Pierre] Bourdieu built on linguistic work known as speech act theory about how humans use speech to generate action.”

I cannot wait to continue on.

Meagan Healy is on page 241 of 367 of Astrid Lindgren: The Woman Behind Pippi Longstocking
From page 240:
"Astrid Lindgren's fundamental ideology, including in art, originated in the culturally radical movements of the interwar era, particularly trends within modern pedagogy and child psychology, which explored the notion of 'the whole person'. Children's books should do the same, she felt. Instead of protecting and lecturing children, they should be challenging them..."

Meagan Healy is on page 108 of 352 of A History of the Philippines: From Indios Bravos to Filipinos
Technical: to me, this page number is great progress, since I'm reading the e-book with a paragraph a page. Were it a paper book, I imagine I would be much further along.

Colonialism is so incredibly thorough, shaping the culture over centuries, isn't it.

Just broadening my horizons on colonization, that's all.

Meagan Healy is on page 69 of 266 of Sesame Street and the Reform of Children's Television
Just read about all of the preparation that went into the creation of Sesame Street. There is a 4-part model: 1) the interaction of receptive television producers and child science experts 2) creation of specific & age appropriate curriculum 3) research to shape the program directly 4) independent measurement of children's learning

I think I need to see "One AM".

Described so: A simple plot. " Charlie arrives home and goes to bed. But the simplest actions ... become extremely complicated because Charlie is roaring drunk."

(Not the Tramp.)
