So slow, so boring. I’m going to start flagging synopses for false advertising

Repetitive especially about MMC’s super cop turned super doctor background
Too many unnecessary explanations
MMC is yet another renegade type refusing to share discoveries for inexplicable reasons

7 hours in and this is a book about Nancy, her mental illness and some pretty unbelievable gaslighting. Kira is incidental. Skipped all the chapters of Nancy in the mental institution and after until Maude came back into the picture and was able to follow the storyline just fine. It’s only now starting to pick up.

DNF. I really wanted to like this book but it’s too slow. Over 2.5 hours (27%) in and it’s still plodding along. There’s no action/ excitement.

Listening to the audiobook. Over 1.5 hours in, absolutely NOTHING has happened.

So incredibly slow. Each and every person, action, thought and emotion is explained in excruciating detail.

Only continuing because of Orpheus

Frustratingly slow. Every little bit of action is followed by 1) inner monologue 2) pointless character backstory 3) research/ historical info clumsily inserted as if all this info should not go to waste

I had to get this out - every character in this book is so dislikeable! And whatever happened to the cat, I couldn’t listen to it.

Surprised at how much I’m enjoying the story so far

Reading ‘til December

I should read the synopsis more carefully instead of letting the title excite me. Would never have read it if I’d known it led to aliens

Hadn’t realised this was fiction…

So far it is not so much a confession, more a winding discourse on labyrinths going back to the Minotaur which thoroughly feels like filler because there is barely any content

Cormoran and Robin discussing horoscopes and the twelfth house… flashback to Harry and Ron making up their miserable week in Divination

Bored with the tediously long, meandering conversations with minor characters that contain very little information to move the story forward.

When Jack Reacher visualises what happens in a fight, it always turns out that way. Happy Doll fails at every turn. Frustrating but more realistic, I’ve been spoiled with Reacher.

Having a difficult time getting through it. Too little story, too many irrelevant off-tangent descriptions. Conversations are a huge waste of time too.
A: Please grant me access to your amazing library.
B: No
A: why?
B: it’s an amazing library; better than others; so full of secrets kept by librarians…
A: what does that have to do with why I can’t see it?
B: blah blah… some books contain lies

There are books that keep you eager to find out what happens next and then there's this one that keeps you continuously asking when it will end. The endless dialogues and internal monologues are tedious, slow down the pace of even high octane scenes and contribute little if any toward moving the story along. I'm only slogging through it to confirm if the perpetrator is who I think it is. #Iwishitwouldfinishalready

What is with the writer’s obsession with seconds? A second to realise something, less than a second, a tenth of a second, seconds to do this and that.
