J.D. Vance's home life was similar to mine, not exactly the same but there's a lot of similarities, which makes this book actually a bit hard for me to get through, just as the movie was for me.

i detest his writing style. this book and the one before it aren't self help books, it's blog posts, it's writing prompts (the rules) with a bunch of mismatched stories put under it therefore "proving" the validity of the statement. i don't need to be preached at. i don't need to hear about God (no offense!) or harry potter or simba just to be moved to make myself better
