I tried. I promised myself if i made it to over 50% through and i still didn't care about the characters i would just DNF it. This one just wasn't for me at all.

If you’re interested in 7th century Britain, this will probably be for you. But seeing as this was for a Fantasy/Sci-Fi book club and … it wasn’t a fantasy book … it wasn’t what i wanted or was expecting at all.

no i am saying it now. as detailed and comprehensive that the setting and time relevant details are: im so so very bored. i don’t really care about anyone, don’t care what happens with their manipulating, and don’t care what happens to Hild.

Also: im feeling beyond ripped off that this was a book for a fantasy/sci-fi book club. WHERES THE SCI-FI OR FANTASY?????

i’m not saying i’m bored … but for all the world building and character establishment i’m still waiting for the fantasy element. i’m vaguely intrigued with Hild, but at the same time … can we get a move on into the plot

it’s interesting, i’m definitely a character driven reader, but in this case it’s really the plot that’s driving me. there’s some seriously immaculate species driven writing that’s happening. i’m so so so interested in where this story is going

dear god this book is fantastic

I’m definitely interested but not sure if i’m captivated. I seem to like and dislike it with equal measure at the moment

this book has absolutely 0 faith that its readers can intuit anything

pretty much on par with every book in the series after trainspotting - there are flashes that i like, but it’s generally just a little dull

i lied, i lasted 3 hours before picking it up again - i couldn’t stop thinking about it

Might actually take a break from the series for a few days - i think it might be too much of the same all in a row

urgh! another book where i can see why people like it but … i just don’t. I’m going to try and finish it but at the moment it’s really one big collection of 7 short stories told from characters who aren’t bonding or interacting that much 💀

so you know those books that everyone tells you to read, so you buy it and put it on a shelf but don’t rush to read because you secretly think it probably won’t live up to the hype?

and then like 10 years later you finally read it?? and then it’s so frustrating because it’s EXACTLY as good as everyone said it would be?????

Kind of a weird love/bored relationship with this book. On one hand it’s such a well crafted world with great multiple POVs. On the other, i just don’t care. I want to know what happens, yet at the same time im kind of bored while reading it??? I don’t know. I enjoy it but i also don’t really at the same time
