having some trouble - mainly because it's set in the 80s and even with it being alternative history, I'm having trouble with it matching up with it having today's tech (or more advanced), modern lingo, and seeming like it should be at least set in the present day.

The author keeps skipping ahead in time by a week or more but forgets to have kept the characters going along too. Some redundancy also - when we're catching up with one character a week later we don't need to be reminded of that time passing again for another character just for the sake of mentioning it
