Elizabeth George has given us crime aficionados a bevy of short stories from the early part of the last century. All with twisted endings!

Interesting characters take to Manchuria during the 30's when Japan occupied the country and had begun the invasion of China. Two character storries in alternative chapters. Moves right along.

If you are a Ty Cobb aficionado, this is a book for you. If you are not, then you might be bored. I am, so I found the book fascinating.

I deleted at 15% reading. I LOVE the Harry Hole series. This novel not up to Nesbo's usual story telling.

Michael Malaghan is finished with The Temptation of Forgiveness (Commissario Brunetti, #27)
Donna Leon is the raw author that keeps a series fresh ...if you love Venice, a good story, interested in political background of Italy, and are a police procedural enthusiast, Commissario Guido Brunetti is your man in Venice.

Elizabeth George at her absolute best. Characters you care about, a crime that demands Lenley and Havers at TREIR best.

Promises to be interesting. Visited the Yangtse dam when under construction where most of the cop procedural takes place.

Michael Malaghan is finished with Cortés and the Aztec Conquest
I had always wondered how Cortes conquered the Aztecs with less than 1,000 soldiers. Now I know. Fast read.

Michael Malaghan is 32% done with A Corpse in the Koryo (Inspector O, #1)
Having spent a week in N Korea five years ago, I find the novel a tongue and cheek credible portrayal of life in N Korea. A good story. Police procedurals are such a fun way to understand a society. James Church is not Hemming Merkel or Donna Leon, but he falls short by only a notch (or a star in this case,)

Raunch, but given all the hype ...not as gross as I thought, just gross ,,an entraining read on Miller's appraisal of his friends. Glad I wasn't one of them. The anti Jewish environment Miller lived (many of his friends were Jewish) but there were so many and so conscious of their Jewish. It was a brand worn. An unintentional foretelling of Europe's cooperation with Hitler.

Good, not quite as good as their own work. A bit contrived, rushed. Will muddle through looking for the one short story that really works. So far, so so

This is an historical novel I first read 30 years ago. It's better now since I am much more aware of Japanese history than then. A great read for Japan history buff.

As the author, I am biased! Ten years in the making. Family immigrant story laced with real historical characters with the fictional family.
