Some books make me wish I had a book club. This one makes me wish I had a graduate seminar. It’s so wonderful, and so dense, that I’m savouring my way through.

Arrrgh. I’m listening to the audiobook and the author isn’t Chinese, so his pronunciation of the characters’ names is annoyingly westernised. And he just mispronounced “kludge”. Who chose this guy???

Yes I’m aware of the irony of starting this book when I’m already in the middle of reading 6 others. Roll with me.

I didn't read this during the great controversy when it came out. Now it's available from the library and I wanted to see for myself.

I'm only 1/4 in, but so far my reaction is (1) yes, she is every bit as crazy as the articles made her sound and (2) it's close enough to my own background to give me PTSD.

Nuhuh. This book has NOT earned the right to invoke the Nazi camps. We're done.
