Holy fucking shit it's a masterpiece

This is... surprisingly boring so far..??

Genuinely don't know if I can finish this, it's a really good book but reading it just makes me really upset

Will actually only get my copy in 4 days but friends have already messaged me to say how good it is 😱 hype is real!

"Victoria, we have not guarded your family for two centuries to be summoned when you've had a... 'bad date'.
Nevertheless, do tell us about this unfortunate rendezvous."
🤣 this series so funny and adorable

"She saw nothing else, heard nothing, as the firebird flew silently through the twilight, its wings trailing plumes and ribbons of flame, its tail covered with jewels of fire. Its claws and beak and eyes seemed of hammered gold that melted into fire and then hardened again into gold. It sang a note. She felt the sound fall through her heart like a pearl falling slowly, with infinite beauty, through liquid gold."

"He walked down a dusty road in a strange dry landscape, eating a handful of stones. In that land, stones turned to words in the mouth. Words tasted like honey, like blood; they vibrated with insect wings between the teeth. He spat them out after he had chewed them. Bees flew out of his mouth, birds circled him, bushes took root in the parched ground and flowered; he was speaking a landscape to life."

This is really the book that makes me disapprove of the main romance, huh. Well that's unfortunate

"Too late, she realized who Renata was partnered with. With a courtly bow, Derossi Vargo led her off the floor. The deep cobalt of his coat echoed the blue flash of Renata’s dragonflies, complementing without matching, and Donaia worried that they’d planned it that way."
Get yourself a friend who will coordinate his fancy outfit with yours 🥰

"And humans came from across the Border,” Elliot said. “Did we invade?” He leaned forward. “Tell me right now, are we engaged in a system of colonial oppression?”
The boy’s happy smile melted away, like ice-cream in relentless verbal sunshine.
“I don’t know . . .,” said Surfer Dude helplessly, “what most of the words you just used mean.”

This is actually so good?? Why did I not discover this sooner?? Giving strong Untamed vibes

One thing I respect about this series is that's it's not random crime cases, Hambly is truly committed to the question of "what profound crisis of identity and/or trauma could this awaken in my protagonist?" every single time 😆

Now THAT's a good plot twist 🤩 I love this book

Let's goooooooo it's Murderbot time again 🤖

Everything you need to know about Thara as a character is that he thinks of himself as a humble priest but is literally friends with both the emperor and the head of all clerics in the empire

Just over here having some kind of emotion over how Iäna is such a good and supportive friend and how far Thara has come to allow himself that friendship and care 🥲

Guy with a demon in his head who calls him "my love" and "my dearest"? God tier concept.

"You are my treasure, my pale gold, the heart of my heart. You lie at the bottom of my being and gnaw upon my roots."

“That’s how you get deathless, volchitsa. Walk the same tale over and over, until you wear a groove in the world, until even if you vanished, the tale would keep turning, keep playing, like a phonograph, and you’d have to get up again, even with a bullet through your eye, to play your part and say your lines.”

Can't believe that we did get the perspective of the snow monster on Hoth but that story was meh. Huge missed opportunity there :( The story about rebels having a betting pool on Han and Leias relationship is quite fun though

"By the side of the river he trotted as one trots, when very small, by the side of a man who holds on one spell-bound by exciting stories; and when tired at last, he sat on the bank, while the river still chattered on to him, a babbling procession of the best stories in the world, sent from the heart of the earth to be told at last to the insatiable sea."

"I am but a cornucopia of regret. Because we’re all bad bitches—till a scowling Were stands outside the bathroom door while we’re washing our hair." 🤣🤣🤣

Love this so much so far, childhood memories!!!

Feel like someone has to say it.....🙈 It's not as engaging as the first one....🫠

Why is there so much of this book left... I've decided that I WILL finish it but I have regrets about that decision

Genuinely cannot say whether I absolutely love or absolutely hate this book

The mushroom witch story!! 🥲

I shall reread this, then read the sequel, and then read the 3rd book once it comes out in 2 weeks. Life as a Kingfisher fan is good.

The sign of a great audiobook narrator is taking a story that features the word "squeak" a lot and rendering it so it becomes sooo fucking creepy!
Also love King was like, let's write a sequel to Cujo AND Duma Key, I can do BOTH and also Covid shall be relevant to the plot

Thanks, Chuck!
