Shelbie is on page 150 of 368 of Blood on Her Tongue
Lucy’s entire personality is her love for her sister, her sister Sara literally spent the first half of the book sick in bed, men are either neutral or cartoon villains, everything I’ve read so far I read in Dracula or Camilla, and once in a while we get very modern slurs and swears and it totally kicks me out of the scene. The writing is beautiful but…nothing is happening.

Virus apocalypse books really had an era in the 2010s.

The lesson so far: don’t cut corners when building or operating a nuclear plant. And maybe we should stop messing with nuclear anything. Just saying.

This is 1000% coded to be about a hot high priestess domme and her two male sorcerer subs taking on the devil in a hidden world of the occult and I’d be SO down for it. But it’s YA so it’ll be a vanilla love triangle at most.

That aside, I am liking this but it’s SLOW.

While fascinating, this is intensely dry. It reads like a keystone history thesis turned into a book. I keep losing track of characters because instead of focusing a chapter on one family, we get a little of each family each chapter in tiny increments, inching through time. So far, there’s been almost no mention of dust storms. Admittedly, reading online chapter summaries has been quicker and just as detailed.
