Reader Susannah did not take a deep breath. Susannah is dead. She is neither breathing nor speaking. Ines, however, the witness the police are speaking to, may well have breathed and spoke.

How is it that well established authors don't have robust editors/proof readers? How many people would have read that error and not corrected it?

Reader, Susannah did not. Susannah is the corpse. Ines, the one the police were speaking to, did in fact fact a deep breath before speaking.

How do established writers not have robust editors/proofreaders?

11 books in and the author still hasn't managed to find a (reliable) editor. Poor grammar, spelling errors, and calling a character Carman when her name is Carmel. 21% in, who knows what further editorial glee awaits.

This book just came out in June, so I couldn't have read it before (thank goodness Goodreads tracks books for me) but I've definitely read this very storyline before.

Well I wasn't expecting this. Highly personal, emotional, painful.

How can it that over 5 pages a character is called Jason twice, then Randle 4x and the editor didn't notice?

I'm annoyed by the fact that she incorrectly identifies the distances in an Ironman triathlon and is describing a standard distance tri. Ya, I'm being petty, but don't put in stuff you don't know.

Well now I've picked a story where, typically, the social worker is portrayed as an idiot and procedure is not remotely close to accurate. This always winds me up!

And how did I pick two books in a row with social workers!?

Hubris, self-interest, failure to report/acknowledge known risks, poor planning, and a laissez-faire attitude.

All sounds as familiar in our present circumstances.

I'm trying but it's a hard slog. I hope to feel very virtuous if I finish.

As with Start with Why, I find Sinek belabours the point. I'm a if you can say it in 10 words, don't give me 100 kind of girl. Whilst he makes many valid and interesting points, I find myself just skimming over him saying the same thing in different ways.

2% in I remembered I said I wasn't going to read and more of Joy Ellis' books because of the typos. Its bona fide not bone fide.

I'm being nit picky, but the police refer to CRB checks; CRBs were replaced by DBS checks more than 7 years ago.

If you are going to refer to a real thing, be sure you have it right.

Also, if you are going to talk about law and social work procedure look them up so they are correct.

12% in and wondering how a guy with 16 books to his name, this being the latest, doesn't seem to have an editor. Or know how to use spell check. Bessides is not a word.

I would love to love this book but it is very poorly written. I'm continuing because I want to know this girl's story.

30% into the book, the author has used the word bemused at least 25 times. Get a thesaurus!

Good storyline but needs an editor. On one page Ms Loach is also called Ms Roach and the main character introduces herself as a DS rather than a DI.

Listened to 3 hours on the plane and haven't even reached the first habit yet! Now I remember why I didn't finish reading it years ago. I shall persevere!

This book hurts my heart.
