Chapter 4 was eye opening. He really breaks down the concept of transubstantiation from a scriptural standpoint and then reinforces it with the writings from the early church fathers.

I am really impressed by this. It is part memoir and part spiritual devotional. He reflects on memories and past experiences and ties them back to his faith and relevant bible passages that have guided him. He ponders the lessons that he has learned and then offers a few soul searching prompts for the reader to use to reflect on their lives.

"I declare unexpected blessings are coming my way. I will move forward from barely making it to having more than enough." I've written it down. I've repeated it several times. This book is great but I think the one thing that is missing is the part where you take some initiative and do something to make it happen. Sometimes, you have to work for those blessings. They don't always magically fall into your lap.

The gist is that the main character, a female but gender fluid thief and street brawler named Sal, is competing in a fight to the death training/audition to become part of the Queen's elite squad of assassins. All of the trainees wear masks and are assigned numbers. There are 23 of them and with the poor character development thus far, I am having a hard time keeping them all straight.

This book is excellent so far. I actually think it should be required reading for middle schoolers or high school. It explains a wide range of world issues in a simple way that young people can understand. Problems such lack of access to clean drinking water, education, energy, causes of poverty and illness are explained. Then the book gives examples of how organizations and regular people are trying to help.

I don't believe in divine interventions per se but I do belive in having the ability to bounce back and make lemonade out of all those lemons. Sometimes setbacks are the best motivation and provide the best learning experiences.

Winston is telling his mistress about how he once seriously contemplated killing his wife. This is the second time that Winston has fantasized about murdering a woman that he hates. He thought about raping and murdering Julia, his current mistress, when he suspected she was spying on him for the thought police. Yet, he didn't want to kill the prostitute. The hate seems to be only directed at women that he fears.

I like the book, but she is losing me with this chapter on abortion. She flippantly refers to pro-lifers as "forced birth fanatics". I hate divisiveness. It's misguided. Not every pro-life woman is part of the "religious right". This isn't my idea of feminism. I don't want to bash other women, their choices, beliefs or religion to be able to embrace that label.

"It was not desirable that proles should have strong political feelings. All that was required of them was a primitive patriotism which could be appealed to whenever it was necessary to make them accept longer working hours or shorter rations." Wow. Is it bad that i immediately thought of not government, but of labor unions when I read this?

Chapter 6 was about navigating the pain of falling out with friends. I'm not sure about the advice provided in this chapter. "Fight for her." And trust god for the rest while resigning yourself to the possibility that a reconciliation may not happen. I guess it's realistic advice but it's exactly what I wanted to hear. My dad always said that true friends don't fall out so easily. i think he's right.

I like the reminder of not tying your whole identity and worthiness to superficial things like who you're married to, how perfect your kids are or your life is, what you do for a living, how much money you have, where you live or how many social media likes you get. God loves you unconditionally.

If I went to my friends and family and said, "Yes, I'm a lawyer making 6 figures and on track to becoming a partner, but I'm not happy. I want to be a broadcast journalist and to do that, I have to start at the bottom and work my way up. I have to take a job at a local station that pays $17,000 a year.", they would have me committed.

Emotional purging on paper is good. It's a healthy way of venting frustrations but I don't agree with destroying the page when you are done. I like being able to go back and reflect. Maybe I see that I overreacted. Maybe I realize that I was wrong about something. Maybe I am able to see other sides later on when I am rereading with a clear perspective. None of that can happen if you destroy it.

I like the concept of "HappyThankYouMorePlease". When you are happy or feeling good, take a moment to thank God or the universe for whatever it was that made you happy in that moment and pray for more moments just like that one. It's not new concept. The same premise was also in "Eat. Pray. Love", but if the same thing keeps coming up in what I am reading, maybe that is a sign that I should pay attention to.

Every woman, every feminist or anti-feminist, every working mother and every stay at home mom should read ch. 6 on ending "The Mommy Wars" that women often have with one another. We are sisters and we are in the trenches together. We need to stop allowing society's divide and conquer tactics to tear us down, try to shame us for making certain choices and even worse, use those tactics to try to take away our choices.
