Not usually a lover of books set around WWII. I’ve read several and liked them, but they take a lot out of me. I’m here with another and it is absolutely gutting. Exquisite and haunting, you are placed right in the unreal insidiousness of the Nazi takeover. It’s heavy but told through a unique, tender perspective. Feels weird to say I’m loving this, but there it is.

Absolutely loving this book, great story, interesting, unique characters and perfect pacing. I’m already sad I’m more than halfway done!

This book is appealing to every one of my senses - from a classroom course on the play "Romeo and Juliet" - travelling to visit the beautiful Verona - feeling the heartbreak of various characters through their individual experiences -- I'm so invested and grateful to have been invited in.
