I've been enjoying, but also finding it a bit trite. The protagonist is very *determinedly* clumsy and naive, long past the point I'd find reasonable. And at this point it's dragging on, a bit like a bedtime or fireside story that the author is telling night after night, where the goal is in the telling and not the coherence of the final story

Weird, but I'm enjoying it. Very gory, but poetic about it.

Skipped to the end - way to bury the lede my dude!
"The fact that our society allows the existence of billionaires is the fundamental problem at the core of this book" 🔥🔥
I guess he figures some people will be persuaded by the wild unrealism shown by those billionaires in the other 250 pages? I did not need convincing

So far actually kind of boring? Because I'm already quite familiar with Effective Altruism, Rationalism, SBF, Yudkowski, and the concept of the tech Singularity

"Explaining our inner world is not part of everyday human discourse... our deepest thoughts and desires... become literally unspeakable.
This makes an odd connection between my two current nonfiction books:
"Dubcon" deals extensively with "what Foucault calls a 'regime of truth': a set of ways of thinking and talking about something that solidifies some ideas while making others unintelligible." See Demythologiztion

"When interacting with the social world, we all use words that condense the richness of our emotional experience to sound bites...Next time someone tells you they love their partner, ask them what they mean by 'love', and you will be surprised by how difficult it is for them to articulate it."
I did just this at 16. No one seemed to understand why it wasn't obvious to me; I couldn't tell when they were trying to say

"Chapter 13: Thinking Outside the Hive" is probably my favorite so far, due to the concrete examples

I can only read a few pages of this at a time and then I have to stop and gush about it to whoever is in the vicinity <3<3<3

I really want to know what other people think of this. Is he actually articulating a distinct personality type? Because I relate to it, a lot, but I hate the generalizations and lecturing tone. Is there a better book I could read on similar topic?

I love this concept. The book is a little heavy-handed at times, generalizing as it tries to carve out a distinct personality type, but it's probably necessary for such a new idea. The current section is reminding me of how viscerally uncomfortable I was with the daily pledge of allegiance in elementary school.

Really enjoying this. I might feel awkwardly privileged going to one of their events, but this captures a lot of my complicated feelings about outdoor activity. I don't have as much fitness trauma as many of the contributors, but I've been realizing I do have some.

Good enough so far! Fewer citations than I'd generally prefer, but that's mostly a difference of style/genre. This isn't the book the *proves* the thesis, it's the book that articulates the idea in plain language, with enough mentions of studies to leave me confident they exist and I can look them up separately.

Oh shit this is good. I really really hope the rest of the book is as good as the introduction, because this is articulating observations I've been trying to pin down for *years*.

Like Groundhog's day with a way better protagonist. I love the Greek mythology sprinkled throughout. I don't care that we haven't gotten an explanation for how time travel is suddenly possible - it's not sci fi, it's not about the mechanism. It's about the way the repeated "do-overs" give Cass a chance to relax & start to understand people, instead of just bracing for unexpected stimuli in social situations

Oh, yes this is delightful. Evocative writing, good character, and I do love the "give no fucks" attitude invited by a time loop.
Cassandra's neurodivergence isn't the same as mine, but I'm finding aspects of it *extremely* relatable.

Picked this up from the "New & Popular" shelf at the library based on the title and cover; flipped thru it, and found the premise and ending intriguing enough to give the whole thing a try. I do love a good time loop, and am often entertained by even a mediocre one 😂 We'll see how this delivers.

I am 2 chapters in and can't recommend this highly enough. I heard
Jess McCabe speak as one of the guest experts on Ologies' ADHD episode 2 and found myself relating to a lot of what she said.
She's got a fantastic Youtube channel at https://www.youtube.com/c/howtoadhd if videos are more your thing. But lucky me, she also just released a book.

This jumped out at me while browsing at the library, and turned out to be timely. As she says in the intro "These pages are not meant to be a guide. Instead, think of them as a companion to support you during a super-shitty time in your life."
