Honestly a little disappointed this is not hobbit-type halflings, it took me way too long to understand it was elf/human halflings. Could have been cool to have hobbit-type halfling assassins.

DNF at about halfway through. Kinda boring and the characters aren't grabbing me.

Dnf at page 300. The description of this sounded so much like my wheelhouse, but I just couldn't get into it or really care about the characters.

I just hate the beauty and the beast / Cupid and psyche requirement that this girl is supposed to sleep every night next to an unknown being without ever asking or looking to see who it is. It sucks to keep telling girls to just be passive and unquestioning in order to help a man.

Was not expecting full on abuse and rape. This goes beyond “dubious consent” as the author describes it. Really uncomfortable to read. This is not romance.

“I cannot figure out how to be a responsible visitor here, because my mere presence feels predatory.”

I’m just confused how and why she chose these places specifically on her quest to travel the world.

“This is the risk of being an active and living participant in the world. Death happens because life does.”

I wish there was more dialogue so far with Maggie and her fellow travelers. It feels very isolated without conversations, which I suppose is fair since that’s how she’s feeling.

Hey fellas, your girlfriend/wife is not your mom. Don’t treat her like she is. That goes for the mothers of said fellas too, don’t treat his partner like she’s your replacement and will need to take care of him. He’s not a child who needs to be fed and clothed and coddled. Didn’t realize how many references to the Bible and God were gonna be in here considering it starts with an extramarital affair. Not impressed with the representation of women so far.

There is a dog named Twink and she’s used the term “gypped”. Not a great start.

I just don’t understand why this artist girl and her artist mother can’t conceive of fashion design as a career but they think fine art painting is a sustainable career?? Designing clothing for a living seems way more stable than fine art painting. I’m so baffled.

I think I hate every single character

Why the fuck are they only feeding the dog sugar. Every single person has fed it cookies, chocolate, and cinnamon buns. That dog would have been dead a long time ago.
