After having watched "When They See Us" this weekend, and doing some reading on Linda Fairstein, I find her unwillingness to admit the atrocities she fabricated on five young boys to be deeply disturbing. She has turned this conviction into a bestselling writing career. I support the boycott of her books and hope they are pulled from shelves. She is one of the guilty and has to pay in someway for her crime.

Having grown up around Burlington, VT, Marsalis does an exceptional job capturing the sense of place and the streets of the city. I could picture exactly where I was as the narrator moves about. Burlington does not often make it into books, so I found this quite exciting.

She's written a darker Veronica Mars story. It's an enjoyable read. Ritter does a great job with sinister don't trust anyone feel.

Really beautiful prose and an engrossing tale. Hated to put it down last night, but better read fully alert and savor what Chancellor has created.

Chapter of Samuel calling Laura out on her plagiarized "Hamlet" paper is brilliantly crafted and hysterical. One section of Laura "defending" herself reads like the Shel Silverstein poem "Sick," which was awesome. Then when he started laughing to keep from crying, I had tears. Starting off as a smart fun read that I am swooning over.

There is a chapter on the USDA. It was so moving to read about the power of positive goals and aims that our governmental agencies are supposed to have to effect the lives of its citizens. In the age of Not My President, who wants to destroy all good things about America, to read a text from the WWII era from the perspective of an immigrant/exile seeker, where the services provided are lauded is needed.

Really want to like this book, but keep screaming at it "You're trying too hard." Cha definitely made a decision as a writer that the audience would be 100% ignorant of Chandler and his creation Philip Marlowe. The text is full of padding "educating" the reader on Marlowe--not in a good way. If I had not read Chandler, this book would not make me want read his books, which to me is a flaw in Cha's approach.

Enjoying and am captivated, but too bloated? A lot of threads in narrative and while it's wrapping up satisfactorily/in an interesting manner, a breath maybe is needed.

I did figure out the killer, but was off on the motive. Just finished that section and I found that section really compelling from the cultural perspective and would have liked more.

NBA reference (unicorn in fiction writing), mocking of Charles Barkley, fun. Thoroughly enjoying, smart and engrossing.

Thoroughly enjoying Collins' voice and the style of the stories/vignettes. Some feel like monologues, which is so cool, some feel like they are stage directions for a play, and they are all really visual due to her use of language.

Eagleton, Derrida, and William James quoted/referenced so far. I would even say that there is some Foucault informing things as well. Man, I miss academic discussions.

With start of S3 of "The Flash" not that far away and hearing that the "Flashpoint" episode uses lines from the comic, figured it was time to read to prepare for what is to come.

While I figured out the big twist that lead to the bigger mystery, I can't quite figure out that bigger mystery. I think I know, but DOUBTS. Also, Bernie is reminding me a lot of a Daniel Holden type character, which I find interesting though my feelings toward him are more complex given what we're told about him pre-prison, he's less cut and dry innocent to me. This might be better than "Ice Shear."
