My mind is subject to change in the future, but as for now, I don't intend to set a numbered reading goal this year. I think I'd rather focus on reading some more classics and spend more time reflecting on what I read.

This plan might backfire on me. Last year I set a fairly low goal so I'd remember more, but I ended up reading the most I've ever read in a year. Whoops.

The premise is cute so far but I’m having a hard time liking any of the characters. They yell and throw things way too much.

I’ve started a Bookstagram at @thecommonplacereader. Not crazy about the name but wasn’t feeling particularly inspired so went with the name I used for a Tumblr back in the day. Gonna try to be keeping up with reading and posting about what I’m reading this year.

So far, this study is really appealing to my inner English-major nerd. Week one days three and four allowed me to tap in to the version of myself that used to analyze rhetorical texts and I Am Here For It.

I don’t know if I can finish this. Her character are all unrealistically ridiculous and it’s infuriating. I want to shake every one of them.

Looking for recommendations. Love historical/bookish mysteries, like Charlie Lovett books.

So far, the jumping back and forth between time periods is not only jarring, but it feels like a gimmicky way to force suspense. I usually like multiple time periods, but maybe the difference is that in her other books, there are different protagonists for each time period but their respective timelines are linear. This just feels like she wrote the book then shuffled the chapters around for no reason.

The smart aleck! I love it. Though, I’m sure he’d drive me nuts in real life, as I never feel witty enough to engage successfully in their banter. But he is a delightful read.

On chapter 3.
Have just met Mr. Tilney.
So far as I can tell, he may soon overtake the position of my favorite Austen hero.
I find it remarkable that Austen was this clever and skilled at characterization at the age of 23, when she is said to have actually written this novel.
I wish I had half her talent and wit.

Self-deprecatingly funny, tragic, and beautifully raw and honest.
