I keep needing to take breaks from this book. It's excellent but torturously sad.

One of my friends won't stop talking about how much this book changed her life, so here we go.

I first read this when I was 12 or 13. This is only my second read. Scott Westerfeld's Uglies universe likely sparked my love of science fiction. I remember scenes from this book even more vividly than most of my childhood.

Sophie Lewis presents family abolition in such a gentle and diplomatic way, yet the top reviews for this book are by reactionaries who seem committed to misunderstanding the theory and its necessity. I suppose I am not surprised.

It's disingenuous to claim that all queer people have a hard time understanding the culture of heterosexuality when the majority of LGBT people are bi and live or have lived functionally heterosexual lives. Homogenizing all LGBT people's experiences obfuscates the fact that our lives under heteropatriarchy are extremely different depending on which letter in the initialism describes our desires.

Her voice is mesmerizing. It's oddly comforting to hear a parallel history about where I grew up.

Girliepop names their memoir after the most well-known lesbian book in the modern era but recoils from the word lesbian while implying others should use "queer" like themselves. lolkay.

This is one of the most authentically butch pieces of writing I've found. So far, it's right up there with SBB and any Bechdel work.

I know so many women like this. just be monogamous, omg. people who hate being polyamorous will try out polyamory as a desperate attempt to hang on to someone who is not right for them. later, they'll talk endless shit about how poly relationships are """toxic""" and unhealthy. really, they were just fixated on this specific kind of self-harm. she certainly captures it well.

Dr. Harper trained my current therapist. I've seen her zines and books in multiple recommended book lists, but I just got my hands on this audiobook. It starts off strong. I like the concept of "intellectual boundaries," and I'm anxious to hear more.

I know the author. 🤭 We worked in the same office and suffered under the same demonic boss while she was writing this. Excited to see how she's translated her life to the page.

My girlfriend reads this to me when I'm feeling sick or have a headache.

I'm starting to get suspicious of books like this that say a lot without offering any pracrical guidance. It's like they intend to keep readers continuously seeking, never acting.

It's kind of nice to read about kind fathers raising their gay sons with compassion and wisdom when you have the kind of father whose death would make the world a better place.
