I’m seeing mixed reactions to the artwork, and while I fondly remember the original AD&D art, I really like the alternative vibe I’m getting with the chosen artwork here. I thought that was rather clever. It would be a good challenge for somebody with enough time on their hands to design a setting which would capture this tone.

Having said that, this book presents information in one place, in coherent chapters, so there’s no need to reference two books on a single topic, as it’s the case with the original AD&D.

I like it, because I was looking for an excuse to revisit AD&D 2nd edition, which has been 80%+ of my D&D journey. It’s compact and tidy, which means that some (sometimes crucial) explanations are either short or missing, and I have to reference the original rule books for clarification or confirmation.

I’ve barely scratched the surface, but from what I’ve read so far, I’m very impressed. It makes for a quite focused reading, each chapter feels like I’m learning kung fu in the matrix. Not sure how much of that I’ll retain in the end. It often exceeds my level of understanding, especially when it comes to mathematical formulas, but I find that more exhilarating than challenging.

The Authors description of Mars beats everything I’ve seen on screen so far.

Na, das liest sich schon mal viel besser als die frühen Atlan und Perry Rhodan Hefte, aber auch besser als neue Reihen, wie Perry Rhodan Neo oder Maddrax. William Volz war shon immer mein Lieblingsauthor, nach Robert Feldhoff und Ernst Vlcek.

I really like this omnibus, but the last chapters of the second book and parts of the third book so far, read like fifty shades of ice age. It surely isn’t necessary to have an in-depth description of every intercourse Ayla ever had.

Just realising that unlike The Clan of the Cave Bear, The Valley of Horses spends only half of the time with Ayla. The other half introduces Jondalar and his brother. It took me a couple of chapters to figure out where the new characters are located geographically. Safe to assume that the two storylines are converging.

I find it entertaining enough so far, but it does read like a cheap pirated version of Lord of the Rings, sold on some street corner illegally.

Apart from a very intriguing game system and setting, I’m quite impressed with the artwork, which is consistently top notch, and the slick layout that makes reading a pleasure. The archetype based character creation reminds me a little bit of Torg.

I like this book a bit better than the first one, but reading it still feels more like work than pleasure. Not sure this series is really my cup of tea and I contemplate to abandon it all together, but I guess I'll stick with it until the next book and see if I feel differently then.

Very well written so far. I can see why this book is a classic.

Guter Roman soweit, ist mir aber fast ein bisschen zu hochdeutsch. Ist aber vielleicht ganz gut so, denn das Bairisch des 17ten Jahrhunderts ist vermutlich nicht identisch mit dem Bairisch von heute.

This reads so far like The Fellowship of the Ring, and that's fine with me.

Despite (or possibly because) of me being economically illiterate, I find this book quite an eye opener.

Of course, Baba Yaga is a good fit for this mythology.

Die Serie nimmt ihren Anfang im Kosovo. Das ist schon mal ein Pluspunkt. Die einzige Bewertung dieses Heftes hier, ist allerdings nicht sehr vielversprechend.

Smythe ging mir von Anfang an auf den Senkel. So zweidimensional und erm.. Moustache-twirling, dass es mir schwer fällt die "suspension of disbelief" aufrechtzuerhalten, wenn er auftaucht.

I'm not unfamiliar with this dynasty, but it just dawned on me, that until now I didn't really understand where the Claudian part in the Julio-Claudian dynasty came from.

The longer I read this book, the more aware I get how appallingly ignorant I am when it comes to anatomy.

Die ersten Romane sind sehr episodisch, was wohl gewollt ist. Die Erzählweise erinnert mich an den Monster-Of-The-Week Stil in X-Files.

Just found out that my brain (benignly) deceived me all of my life, by learning to find my blind spot in the eye. Quite easy, once you know where to look.

This is seriously good. I really want to check out The Incredible Human Journey now.

I don't think Sieh will beat Oree, with her unique point of view, as my favourite protagonist of this trilogy, but so far, the third book is very engaging.

Der amerikanische Titelheld ist zwar sehr mainstream, aber immerhin fängt die Serie in Italien an, was im postapokalyptischen Genre mal was anderes ist.

Ich hoffe, dass es für Aruula's Telepathie eine gute Erklärung gibt, anstatt anzunehmen, dass es PSI-Begabungen schon immer gab.

So far, very, very good. I love the setting. Judging by the first chapter, I'd call it Slavic high fantasy.
